Fans

On strings
limp cellophane snowflakes
remain to remind us
that Christmas has passed.

The air conditioner is blowing on us
because the day is hot and humid
as the football fans
get stupid in the streets.

Sugar Bowl! Sugar Bowl!
Nobody will know
next year.
Who won and who lost
will be buried in the tonsils
of the moving fans—
blowing down the streets like the tinsels
of Christmas past.

Blow away! Blow away!
Time will be passed in celebration
or not.
