Finding Art on the World Wide Web

Major art indexes and other sites in alphabetical order.
I'm concentrating here on larger sites that include either comprehensive listings of arts resources or present large collections of images. I'm now including more descriptions here in the interest of being more useful, not in order to rate the resources. Wherever practicable I used a description provided by the resource itself. These links can lead you to a vast and diverse world of art-on-the-web.
